While I usually focus on wildlife, I found myself looking back at these studies of thermal pools in Yellowstone National Park. The multicolored pools obtain their signature color, ranging from red to blue to the entire rainbow, thanks to thermophilic bacteria and archaea. These microscopic life forms create one of the most unique and beautiful natural wonders in the world.
