Paradise Paintings

These paintings all began with references from Christian iconography. I take these source images and play with them through abstraction and reinterpretation. The process allows me to go into my heritage and immerse myself in the tradition, while also allowing freedom to open these images up beyond a strictly religious context. These days I’m very much inspired by the lush and humid mood of the tropics; that was in my head while I was painting these and informed the type of atmosphere I hope comes across here.
